Success: UEL researchers to evaluate Newham Child Sports scheme

Researchers from the School of Health, Sport and Biosciences have been awarded £18,000 from activeNewham and Newham Council to conduct studies for the Newham Every Child a Sportperson (NECaSP) scheme.

The scheme, which is also being co-managed by UEL’s SportsDock, aims to support children in Newham to take up sport and develop a lifelong passion for it and is currently being implemented across 17 secondary schools in the Borough, involving 4500 young people.

Dr. Symeon Dagkas, Dr. Marcia Wilson and Dr. Whitney Babakus-Curry, from the Applied Sport Sciences Research Group, will undertake an evaluation of the project, which will comprise a mixed-method approach (questionnaires, interviews, focus groups and case studies) examining young people’s (and their families) physical activity habits and sporting participation, attitudes to sport, resilience, nutritional and sedentary habits.
