Athena SWAN at UEL – What are we doing? How to get involved?

UEL recently signed up to the principles of the Athena SWAN extended charter – but what does this actually mean for staff and students at UEL?

Pledge for parity 2016-02-23_085225

What are we currently working on?

While continuing work towards gender equality in the STEMM subjects, signing up to the extended Athena SWAN principles recognises work required to improve gender equality in all academics disciplines and professional services. You can view our current application and action plan.  In summary our action plan focuses on four main areas:

  • Preparation for making the extended (and discipline) Athena SWAN awards e.g. data analysis, identification of issues
  • Embedding gender equality across UEL e.g. unconscious bias training, recruitment processes
  • Widening participation and civic engagement e.g. outreach activities
  • Supporting and advancing STEMM women’s careers e.g. through mentoring and networking support

How to get involved?

We will soon be recruiting to the Athena SWAN mentoring programme for the second year. This is a mentoring scheme which aims to support the career development of female academics. To find out more attend our networking event or check out our intranet pages. To apply to become a mentor or mentee complete an application.
